NATURAL HISTORY LECTURE SERVICE
UK TURTLE MARINE HELP
UK  marine turtle speciallists from the University of Wales, Swansea
and the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) recently initiated a 7 day
workshop in the Cayman Islands, to give biologists new research skills
allowing them to further investigate the status of their endangered marine
turtle population. Researchers came from Anguila, Burmuda, British Virgin
Islands, Cayman Islands, Monserrat and the Turks & Caicos Islands.
The University of Western Ontario will be joining them and this will be
ongoing for three years. The skills brought to these workshops will enable
trainees to learn about nesting, beach surveying, reef surveying,
turtle tagging, genetic sampling and analysis, as well as how to
conduct socio-economic surveys of turtle fisherman, turtle meat sellers
and tourists.
